CNU New York invites you to Orange County's 4th Annual Placemaking Conference. Topics of discussion will include "New Smart Growth Planning Concepts and Zoning Tools that Help Communities Evolve into Places People Want to Live, Work and Play."

This event is aimed at providing the general public, community leaders, community development professionals and elected officials tools they can use to make great places in our communities. Other topics include:

• How do we make zoning smarter? Learn about innovative codes & form-based zoning
• The relationship between land use regulations and how our communities evolve
• Integrating the Orange County Design Manual into our communities to make great places

Speakers include: David Church, OC Planning, Rob Lane, RPA, Gianni Longo, ACP Visioning and Planning, John Nolon, Pace University, John Massengale, Massengale & Co LLC, Lou Marquet, Leyland Alliance, Stuart Turner, Turner Miller Group, and Mark Wildonger, Scenic Hudson.

APA and the Orange County Municipal Planning Federation will offer continuing education credits for this conference.

Andres Duany in Back-to-Back NYC Presentations

Andres Duany (one of the foremost founders of New Urbanism) will be in New York this week to give two presentations at CUNY City College's Spitzer School of Architecture.

Thursday 2/2 at 6:30 pm, Andres will lecture on "Heterodoxia Architectonica." The lecture will kick off Spitzer's Spring 2012 Lecture Series, which are all open to the public for free.

Friday 2/3 at 11:00 am, Andres will host a seminar titled "Agrarian Urbanism." The seminar is also open to the public for free, and will include a reception afterwards.

A presentation on Hanoi Capital Construction Master Plan by Perkins Eastman. Brad Perkins and Paul Buckhurst will discuss the framework to guide the city’s expected urban growth to over nine million people by 2030. The plan establishes a vision for the city to become one of the most livable, sustainable, and attractive world capital cities. The plan protects 70% of Hanoi—including its natural areas and agricultural land—as part of a broad sustainability strategy. The plan calls for strict preservation of the historic precincts.
