6:00 PM, April 5: Panel Presentation and CNU Chapter Meet-Up in NYC
Place: The National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park, So. (at 20th St.)
Our chapter has organized what will be a very informative panel presentation on Tuesday, April 5 at NYC’s National Arts Club that also will be a really fun social evening during which you will have the chance to meet in person all the Zoom faces that for the past five years you have been talking to online. The event will be held at the historic National Arts Club in NYC, a National Landmark occupying the Tilden Mansion, the 19th cent. home of Gov. Samuel Tilden.

It is imperative that you register yourself and guests now since closer to the April 5 event date, the NY Landmarks Conservancy will be publicizing the event to its 18,000 contacts, and it is anticipated that the Conservancy will fill the lecture hall to capacity.
A rundown of the event is as follows,
4:00-5:00 PM: New Urbanist tour of Battery Park City led by Zeke Mermell and Camille Cortes. RSVP for the tour to Zeke Mermell at [email protected]
4:45-5:45 PM: Meet with chapter members for a social gathering at the National Arts Club bar for prosecco before the panel presentation’s start. Guests are welcome. The club requires jackets in the bar area. Please note that participants in the Battery Park City tour will not be able to attend this segment of the evening.

A Better Place to Live: Walkable Communities, Sustainable Urban Planning, Historic Preservation, Social Equity, and Battery Park City
New Urbanism is the cutting-edge urban design canon that is creating better places to live that reduce sprawl and respond to climate change. A panel of experts will present an invigorating overview of New Urbanism.
Jeff Speck is the author of the bestselling city planning book of the past decade, Walkable City. He is also the leader of an award-winning urban planning firm. Joining him for a discussion on high-quality urban planning are Shelley Poticha, Chief Climate Strategist of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Marc Wouters of an award-winning planning firm in Brooklyn.
The event will include discussion of Battery Park City, one of the most successful examples of New Urbanism in the NY area. Topics to be discussed by the panel include historic preservation of urban districts, the creation of social equity in communities, affordable housing, methods to address climate change, and sustainable transportation.
