Our Congress for the New Urbanism Chapters are hosting a collaborative, membership-focused conversation on advancing our movement towards the next chapter of its life / growth. With postCOVID in sight, our climate calamity, and a new CNU leadership direction this spring, right now is our best opportunity as a group to reflect, refocus and simply talk to each other to find agreement on who we are going forward into this new era, or our Third Act. This event is intended to envision and articulate what difference we want to make in this brave new world. It is an opportunity for our chapters and members to discuss high-minded ideas about our collective issues and initiatives. And we intend to clearly distinguish between CNU the Movement (our members and chapters) and CNU the Organization (our board and staff), which has a new Strategic Plan and soon-to-be new Executive Director.

We are organizing two (2) virtual 90-minute Social Hour Events. The first is on Friday, March 19th afternoon/evening, and again on Saturday, March 20th afternoon/evening. Facilitated by Jennifer Hurley, Howard Blackson, and Nathan Norris, we intend to gather as many members as possible into these two events. The format will consist of both small and large group discussions to develop and refine ideas about how we want the world to be different because of our movement’s work.

- How do we envision our cities being different through the work we do?
- Now that many new urbanist ideas are mainstream, what would a radical New Urbanism look like?
- What actions do we need to take to make these radical new ideas a reality?
- Transparency and communication between members and chapters.
- Cultivate the culture of CNU the Movement’s legacy of bold action and experimentation.
- Generate excitement and participation in the upcoming Congress and Chapter events.
- Connections with other regional and national advocacy groups, such as AARP and beyond.
- Ideas for the Movement to be locally focused and effective at the level of the Building, Lot, Block Street and Neighborhood, which is where we have had the most impact.
- RSVP at [email protected] for the event link. Please share this flyer with anyone interested in attending.
- Consolidate the results to be shared with CNU’s members, chapters, and board and we appreciate everyone for their participation and engagement.
- Follow up this event at CNU 29 in mid-May 2021, and a series of other member, chapter, and board focused events throughout the summer and fall of 2021.
