Join MoMA, Columbia's Buell Center and the Forum for Urban Design on March 8 for Shifting Suburbia, part of MoMA's Foreclosed: Rehousing the American Dream installments. 5 leading architects and designers - including CNU Board Member Ellen Dunham-Jones - will speak about their proposals related to the housing crisis, autocentrism and the future of American suburbia.

2/15: Gridlock!

This Wednesday 6:30pm at the Museum of the City of New York is GRIDLOCK!: Congestion and Flow on New York City Streets.

From the Museum:

Recent innovations by the Department of Transportation have helped to remake the multiple ways New Yorkers get from point a to point b; pedestrian malls, bike lanes, and bus-only lanes are reshaping traffic flows in New York City. Learn how traffic engineers and city planners work to keep traffic moving and explore the innovative and sometimes controversial reforms being made to the streets of New York. Kate Slevin, Executive Director of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, moderates a discussion with Sam Schwartz (a.k.a. "Gridlock Sam"); Bruce Schaller, New York City Deputy Commissioner for Traffic and Planning; and Jeffrey Zupan, Regional Plan Association.

Urban Tables at Parsons

Currently and through Spring, Parsons (The New School for Design) is hosting a series of lectures called The Urban Tables.  All events will be at The Kellen Auditorium, 66 Fifth Ave. More info on poster below and at sds.parsons.edu

The Urban Tables herald the September 2012 launch of the MS in Design & Urban Ecologies and the MA in Theories of Urban Practice, both programs will be focused on the envisioning, activism and theorization of radically different forms of urbanization, which move beyond the classical disciplinary boundaries into a trans-disciplinary redefinition of urban practice.

Andres Duany in Back-to-Back NYC Presentations

Andres Duany (one of the foremost founders of New Urbanism) will be in New York this week to give two presentations at CUNY City College's Spitzer School of Architecture.

Thursday 2/2 at 6:30 pm, Andres will lecture on "Heterodoxia Architectonica." The lecture will kick off Spitzer's Spring 2012 Lecture Series, which are all open to the public for free.

Friday 2/3 at 11:00 am, Andres will host a seminar titled "Agrarian Urbanism." The seminar is also open to the public for free, and will include a reception afterwards.
