Derik is the Lead Planner and Project Manager at LaBella's Buffalo office, where he oversees a diverse portfolio of planning projects. His expertise spans various domains, including downtown revitalization, economic development, housing initiatives, municipal support encompassing grant writing and administration, and comprehensive economic & market analysis.

He is the former President of Partners for a Livable Western New York, the official affiliate for the Congress for New Urbanism in Western NY, and is a current board member for CNU NY. His commitment to excellence was acknowledged in 2020 when he was honored with Buffalo Business First's prestigious 40 under 40 award. Derik is an esteemed alum of Leadership Buffalo and actively contributes as a member of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy Long Range Planning Committee.

Derik holds a Masters of Urban Planning from the University at Buffalo, where he specialized in Economic Development. Derik is a certified planner by the American Institute for Certified Planners and is accredited with the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNUa), reflecting his commitment to adhering to the highest professional standards.

Throughout his career, Derik has played instrumental roles in various committees and organizations. He chaired the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Committee and served as a leadership member for Buffalo’s Young Preservationists.

In his personal life, Derik resides in Amherst, NY, with his wife Jessica and their two daughters. Beyond his professional commitments, he has several publications to his credit including recent work focusing on Omnichannel retail and its impacts upon local municipalities throughout New York State.
